AAU is a mission-driven university that supports research, education, and the collaboration of knowledge. AAU ITS is currently looking for a skilled network administrator to join our network team. The team is responsible for providing network and network security to about 20,000 students and 3,800 employees at AAU. This includes core, distribution, and access network services. Network administrators work in the Infrastructure Services department, which is a part of the IT Department of Aalborg University. The Infrastructure Services department has about 40 full-time employees and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire IT infrastructure at Aalborg University.

The network team is responsible for managing all networks for users and servers at Aalborg University. We face many interesting tasks and projects in the network area, and we are looking for a network administrator who can be a part of achieving the right implementation, as well as ensuring continuous stable network operation.

We have a large Cisco-based network with wired and wireless access networks as well as core, edge, and data center networks. We use F5 load balancers and virtualized server network utilizing VMware NSX, Cisco ACI, and OpenStack. We also support several Ubuntu Linux based services such as network monitoring, dhcpd, BIND, and FreeRadius.

These are among our current and upcoming projects, where we expect you to be a part of the implementation group:

  • Further development of our network strategy
  • Upgrade all access switches on AAU
  • Increased use of Cisco ACI to provide virtual network infrastructure
  • Further deployment of VMware NSX and Cisco ACI for segmentation of servers and services
  • Deployment of 802.1x for access control on wired access networks
  • Deployment of Cisco DNAc
  • Deployment of Cisco ISE.

As network administrator you will be responsible for or involved in:
  • Implementation, operation, and documentation of systems to support IT services at Aalborg University e.g.:
    • Network monitoring
    • Development and design of routing on core, edge, and data center networks
  • Automation and service documentation to enable the Service Desk to handle Service Requests and Incidents
  • Handling of escalated Service Requests and Incidents
  • Planning and implementation of system changes in service windows
  • Participation in on-call duties on a limited scale
  • Participation in technology and solution development in cooperation with requestors, project leads and architects
  • Keeping up with technological development
  • Ensuring that solutions are implemented according to policies and guidelines and that documentation is up to date.

Qualifications:
We expect you to be well-experienced in computer networking. Experience with the areas and technologies mentioned is an advantage, but your ability and desire to master new areas, skills and technologies will be our primary focus.

We expect you to have an education and/or degree in a relevant field, for instance, computer science, engineering, data technician, or similar.

You can work structured with implementation and troubleshooting. Errors on our systems can affect thousands of users, and we expect you to be serious about testing as part of the process for new and existing deployments. We expect you to utilize scripting(in Python, for instance) for automation, to handle large and complex installations and avoid errors.

We expect you to be able to communicate clearly and engage actively in spoken and written English on technical subjects. Being able to communicate clearly in spoken and written Danish or being willing and able to learn to do so is a requirement.

Further information:
We are passionate about our work and have a good environment where we work closely with our colleagues in the department's other teams. In addition, there is also close cooperation with our Support teams, as well as our architects and technical project managers. The close collaboration also impacts your influence as an administrator, and there is ample opportunity to participate/contribute in relation to decisions concerning the infrastructure's architecture.

We work and document according to ITIL Best Practice, the tone is informal and with a smile on our face. Well-being is highly valued, and there is room and space to work together with colleagues and to make a difference individually. We follow the technological development and have good opportunities for competence development.

The work takes place on Aalborg University's campus in Aalborg.

Løn og ansættelsesvilkår

AGREEMENT

Employment and salary are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement in the state sector, including the Organisations of Public Employees collective agreement. Qualification-based supplements may be granted, subject to negotiation.

There is a 3-month mutual trial period.
